Homemade Croutons

These croutons are a perfect pair with my French Onion Soup recipe, but they also are great on salads, on a charcuterie board with your favorite meats and cheeses, or just by themselves.

They are a bit larger than your normal, store-bought croutons, but they are easy to break into pieces.

I present my recipe for easy croutons:

INGREDIENTS

1 French Baguette [the skinnier and crustier, the better]

Olive Oil

Dried Basil

Coarse Salt

3-4 Cloves of Fresh Garlic, minced

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Slice the baguette into thin slices [about 1/2" - 3/4"].

  2. Place the pieces of bread onto a baking sheet and drizzle olive oil all over each piece of bread (only one side).

  3. Next sprinkle on the salt and basil [feel free to add any other spices you like].

  4. Top each piece of bread with a pinch of minced garlic. You can use a spoon or fork to spread it.

  5. Place them in the oven on 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. You want them to turn slightly golden, but now brown. Remove and serve!

Optional Topping: Try adding a little freshly grated parmesan cheese to the top and put it back into the oven for 2-3 minutes allowing it to melt. DELISH!
